The shadow soul corrosion had become a constant companion. Dark veins pulsed under Lin Xiao’s skin, especially along his back and chest where the wounds from previous battles refused to close completely. At night the poison flared without warning, sending sharp stabbing pains through his soul core that left him drenched in cold sweat. During the day it drained his divine energy in small but steady amounts, making every movement feel heavier than it should. The System could suppress the worst of it, but it offered no permanent cure. Lin Xiao pushed through the discomfort anyway. Showing weakness in the Divine Realm meant inviting more enemies.

A new threat gathered strength on the northern borders. The Abyssal Eclipse Faction, an old rival organization that thrived in secrecy and shadow, had formed an alliance with a dangerous entity known as the Void Whisperer. This entity was the lingering soul fragment of an ancient fallen sovereign, a being of pure darkness and manipulation that fed on doubt and fear. Together they saw Lin Xiao as a threat that needed to be removed before he could solidify his hold on the region.

The attack came at dusk in the Whispering Valley, a place where natural shadow mists amplified void laws. Lin Xiao led a force of his best warriors, his seven women at his side. His body still ached from the soul corrosion, but he refused to stay behind.

The moment they entered the valley the air grew heavy. Black mists swirled around them, whispering faint voices that tried to stir old memories of humiliation and betrayal. High Priestess Nyra appeared first, her body wrapped in flowing black robes, leading dozens of elite shadow cultivators. Behind her the Void Whisperer manifested as a massive swirling vortex of darkness with glowing red eyes.

“You have grown too bold, newcomer,” Nyra called out. “The Abyssal Eclipse Faction and the Void Whisperer have decided your time ends today.”

Lin Xiao drew his sword. Divine Chaos Lightning crackled around him, but it flickered unsteadily because of the corrosion. “Then stop talking and fight.”

The battle exploded across the valley.

Nyra and her cultivators unleashed waves of shadow blades that cut through space itself. The Void Whisperer sent tendrils of pure darkness that whispered doubts into the minds of Lin Xiao’s warriors, weakening their resolve. Lin Xiao charged straight into the center. His first clash with Nyra sent sparks flying as chaos lightning met devouring shadow. He landed a solid strike that wounded her shoulder, but she retaliated with a blade that grazed his ribs, injecting more shadow energy that fed the existing poison.

Pain flared hot and sharp. The dark veins under his skin burned brighter. Lin Xiao gritted his teeth and pressed on. He fought through a dozen shadow cultivators, his sword cutting clean paths, but each kill came slower than the last. The corrosion drained him. His reactions lagged. A tendril from the Void Whisperer caught him off guard and pierced his left shoulder, sending fresh waves of soul erosion through his body.

He roared and tore the tendril apart with raw lightning, but the damage was done. Blood ran down his arm. His vision blurred for a moment as old memories of clan beatings flashed unwanted in his mind.

His women fought hard to protect him. Murong Xue cut through shadows with cold precision, taking a hit to her side that left a deep cut. Princess Yan Zi unleashed phoenix flames that burned away some of the mists, but the Void Whisperer simply absorbed part of the fire and grew stronger. The others coordinated as best they could, yet the combined pressure from Nyra and the entity kept them on the defensive.

The fight dragged on for hundreds of moves. Lin Xiao sustained more injuries. A shadow blade opened a long cut across his thigh. Another tendril struck his back, worsening the old wound and spreading the corrosion faster. Blood soaked his robes. His breathing grew labored. The poison made his divine energy unstable, causing his lightning attacks to weaken at critical moments.

Nyra laughed as she pressed her advantage. “Look at you. Even your own power turns against you.”

The Void Whisperer whispered directly into Lin Xiao’s mind, dredging up doubts about his women and his path. For a brief second his focus slipped. A heavy strike from Nyra caught him in the chest, cracking ribs and sending him crashing into a boulder.

Pain exploded through his body. He coughed blood and forced himself back up. The women rushed to his side, their faces filled with fear and determination. They formed a tighter circle around him, pouring their energy into a protective formation despite their own wounds.

Lin Xiao drew on everything he had left. He ignored the screaming pain in his soul and body, sacrificed a dangerous amount of blood essence, and unleashed his strongest attack yet. A massive chaos dragon formed, infused with every law he had stolen so far. It roared through the valley and collided with the Void Whisperer and Nyra.

The explosion lit up the shadowed landscape. The Void Whisperer shrieked and retreated, badly damaged. Nyra was thrown back, severely wounded. The remaining shadow cultivators broke and fled.

Victory belonged to Lin Xiao, but he paid dearly. He collapsed after the battle, barely conscious, blood pooling beneath him from multiple deep wounds. The shadow soul corrosion had advanced dramatically, leaving dark pulsing veins visible across his chest and arms. His women carried him back to the palace in heavy silence.

In the recovery chamber the harem’s tension reached a breaking point as they worked to stabilize him.

Su Mei pressed healing herbs into the worst cuts on his chest, her voice shaking with worry. “This cannot continue. The soul corrosion is spreading faster after every fight. We need to withdraw to a quiet divine sanctuary and let him recover fully. Pushing him like this will end in his death.”

Murong Xue wrapped the deep gash on his back with steady hands, but her eyes showed strain. “Retreating invites every remaining enemy to strike. He has never backed down. We stand with him and help him overcome this.”

Princess Yan Zi stood near the bed, fists clenched at her sides. “He is the strongest person I know, but the poison is eating him alive from within. I want him to rise above it all, yet I fear one more battle will break him permanently.”

Xuan Yue spoke softly while cooling his fevered skin. “The System he depends on is still not fully stable. He tries to hide the pain, but we all see it. We should protect him first before anything else.”

Bing Yue and Mei Ling added their voices, torn between caution and belief in his path. The chamber filled with overlapping arguments. All seven women hovered around Lin Xiao, their concern and love for him plain in every word and touch. The earlier betrayal had left deep cracks. They were united in wanting him to live and succeed, but divided on whether safety or continued conquest was the right way forward. Fear for his life hung heavy in the air.

Lin Xiao lay on the bed, pale and breathing with difficulty, listening to their heated exchange through the fog of pain. The shadow soul corrosion flared again, sending fresh agony through his core. He finally spoke, his voice weak but carrying the same unyielding will.

“Enough arguing. I will not hide or flee. The corrosion and these wounds… I will master them and turn them into strength. Stay united. Divided we are vulnerable.”

The women fell into an uneasy quiet. They continued tending his injuries with careful hands, their divided hearts still heavy, but their devotion to him remained.

The Divine Realm had grown far more dangerous. Lin Xiao’s path forward would demand even greater sacrifices.
